Acupuncture can help you ease into menopause and reduce many of the uncomfortable symptoms women often experience around the ages of 45 to 55. If you want to avoid hormone replacement therapy (HRT), the gentle 5000 year-old techniques of Acupuncture for menopause can help. Think twice about your natural options before you reach such dire circumstances that the gynecologist is handing you a prescription for Premarin. Assisting the menopause transition with Acupuncture can reduce or eliminate hot flashes and night sweats, and also bring better sleep, more intimate moisture and pleasure, and improved overall mood. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical tradition that uses over 2,000 pressure points and energy channels in your body to bring balance and improve performance. Acupuncture uses disposable needles as thin as a strand of hair and places them just below the skin to stimulate pressure points. Acupuncturists have holistic approaches and often recommend herbs, exercise, meditation, and other non-invasive solutions. Treatments are essentially painless but can occasionally cause tingling sensations where the needles are placed. Plus, multiple studies have shown Acupuncture to be more effective than placebos at easing menopause symptoms. In Acupuncture theory, the endocrine (hormonal) system is closely tied to the internal balance of the Yin energy and the Yang energy. You can imagine that the Yang energy is like gasoline that fuels a car, and the Yin energy is the coolant for the car’s engine. Without the coolant, the engine overheats and begins to burn out. The same is true if there is a sharp decrease of Yin energy in menopause: lack of cooling Yin causes hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, and a feeling of being "wired and tired" at the same time. What we do as Acupuncturists is to strengthen and nourish the Yin with specific points and herbs, thus making sure the Yin and Yang are more equal within the body. This will restore your essential internal balance. One recent study showed Acupuncture reduced hot flashes in menopausal women by 35%. While Acupuncture treatment is generally conducted in a short series of appointments on a regular basis, this study showed that the participating women still had fewer hot flashes even after finishing their Acupuncture regimens. Acupuncture during menopause has numerous benefits beyond regulating roller-coaster hormone levels. Other benefits include increasing energy, improving appetite, reducing insomnia, relieving depression symptoms, improving circulation and cardio-pulmonary functioning, and relieving muscles aches. Great news for women in your golden years: without all the uncomfortable symptoms of menopause, you will be free to enjoy a phase of life marked by extreme creativity and inspiration, passion, and professional accomplishment. Since the dawn of time women have been experiencing menopause without prescription drugs and synthetic hormones. Take control of your health! It is time to think about what is best for your body. It’s time to think outside the box… and ease into menopause with Acupuncture. Licensed Acupuncturist Georjana Shames LAc Dipl.OM. Offices In San Rafael & Cotati, CA.
The ancient Chinese practice of inserting small needles into you body a certain specific points has for centuries been seen as a cure all for all kinds of diseases. The principle is that this stimulates your nerves and can reliving pain and discomfort as well as treat numerous diseases. But can acupuncture really cure my back pain? First let’s define “cure”: To me cure me a complete ending of what every is bothering me. When I was about six years old Dr. Jonas Salk invented the cure for polio. Take a series of shots or drink a dose of the medicine and you would not get polio. Now the vaccine unfortunately wouldn’t cure those that had this terrible disease, but it would prevent healthy kids from catching it. A real cure would be that if a had a disease like polio or cancer or AIDS a shot would end the disease and I would be completely healed, never to catch it again. Sounds great but most “cures” don’t work this way most prevent the sickness not cure those afflicted. The best medicine can do is relieve the illness. This is the case with Acupuncture. We how have probably heard of someone who has gone to an acupuncturist for a problem and left with glowing praise for the treatment. But usually what happens is that after a while the pain comes back and they have to return for more treatments. What this ancient medical treatment can do is relieve your aching back symptoms. This is great for all of us who suffer from chronic back pain. Numerous studies have shown that after a series of treatments a majority of people do report temporary relief. How ever this is not a cure. The pain and the symptoms that are causing the back problem have been temporarily blocked but not cured. So is sticking needles into your body a practical treatment for a sore back. The answer is yes. But it is not again a cure. So how cure lower back pain? How do you lose the pain and get on with your life? Well the answer is to strengthen the back and abdominal muscles correcting muscle imbalance. One of the top rated programs is called the Lose The Back Pain System developed by therapists and doctors of the Healthy back Institute. This program has helped thousands by strengthening muscles and eliminating muscles imbalance. As someone who has suffered with a bad back and who has endured months of physical therapy and an operation, I can tell you there are solutions for your discomfort. To help myself and others cope with an aching back I have created a blog.
