Besides the usual symptoms like urinary retention, increase in urinary frequency, or the noticeable decrease in size and force of urination, one of the initial symptoms that is commonly experienced by men with Prostate Cancer is Sexual Dysfunction. Lost in the desire to engage in sex commonly results during the treatment process when both partners become so preoccupied with otherwise more important matters that need immediate attention. Depression, anxiety and stress, which all ensue during the treatment, exacerbate the lost of interest in sex. Pain during ejaculation also adds up to this problem. However, more sexual problems arise as the treatment measures move forward. The nerve that controls the penile erection lies close with the prostate gland. During Radical Prostactectomy or the complete removal of the prostate and the seminal vesicles, the nerve is usually removed together with the prostate gland resulting to complete impotence. This type of surgery, however, remains to be the typical surgical procedure done to cure prostate cancer. Trans-Urethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) causes dry orgasms. TURP is done by removing a part of the prostate through the passageway of urine in the penis, in doing so, the constricting valve at the bladder is opened causing the semen to flow to the bladder rather that through the penis. Orgasm occurs without the ejaculation of semen hence the term dry orgasm. Hormonal therapy, done either by orchiectomy (or removal of one or both testes) or through medication, aims to deprive the cancer cells of testosterone by creating a different hormonal balance in male. The deficiency in male hormone reduces sexual desire in men. The psychological effects of having one or both testes removed also heighten the problem. Other treatments like radiation and chemotherapy increase the pain during ejaculation. Decrease in amount of semen during ejaculation is also prevalent. The chance of recovering penile erection after surgeries has become possible when the nerve is spared during radical prostatectomy. Viagra is found to be effective. Injection of Caverject (alprostadil) is used whenever erection is necessary and is very useful even without stimulation. Effects of hormonal therapies are usually lessened by counseling of both partners. In the absence of social support referral to “self-help” groups might become necessary.
The frequent need to relieve the bladder can have life-changing effects. Mike is 65 years old and his prostate is affecting his life. Social events are curtailed, no more family day-picnics, or chaperoning his grandkids on Halloween night as they go trick or treating. Most of his days he spends at home, tired during the day and wishing he could just get the rest he knows he needs. A gregarious man by nature, Mike has gradually taken to a life of seclusion. This kind of scenario can be very common to many men over 50 years of age. Mike finds he cannot even drive for more than an hour without having to stop at a gas station. Mike was a foreman who retired from active work about ten years ago. He has enjoyed robust health. Now approaching his “senior” years, Mike complains of frequent needs to urinate. Many men experience increased frequency in urination as age advances. It could be due to age or could be associated with prostate health. Nighttime is worse and Mike hardly gets any sleep. During the day he is groggy, irritable and finds it hard to concentrate or have energy to do the things he once enjoyed. Like Mike, many men accept this to be a normal phase of growing older and may not consult a doctor. The truth is, only a medical checkup will be able to tell you whether your bladder is overworking due to old age or because of an aging prostate. Get Proactive on Prostate Health! Prostate health and aging are primary concerns in men’s health today. Statistics show that prostate complaints among older men are rising and with more serious subsequent complications rising as well. Health experts believe that statistics are rising because men are not taking enough proactive measures to support prostate health as they grow older. Medical experts are now recommending that men over 40 or approaching their 40s take proactive measures (including prostate supplement) for maintaining prostate health. Many of the factors related to poor prostate health are indeed, controllable. Even with genetic factors at play, early detection and proactive measures are critical for supporting prostate health. Here are a few things you should be doing to become proactive in supporting prostate health: Regular physicals are recommended which include annual or even bi-annual prostate exams. Dietary modifications include adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet and limiting your intake of red meat and high-fat foods. Regular physical exercise. Obesity and prostate complications can go hand-in-hand. It is important to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle and keep at an optimal weight for your height and age. In addition to regular exercise, Kegel exercises strategically target the muscle tone in this area.

Here are a few things you should be doing to become proactive in supporting prostate health:

In addition to regular exercise, Kegel exercises strategically target the muscle tone in this area.

Prostate Supplements that Contain Beta Sitosterol

As a proactive measure, taking prostate supplements that contain beta sitosterol is popular and known to be effective. Beta sitosterol is a phytosterol found in plants. It is present in foods like saw palmetto berries, nuts, and avocados. It is not easy to get a therapeutic dose of beta sitosterol through diet alone. We would have to eat 4 lbs of saw palmetto berries a day! Prostate supplements are a good way to get a nutritional dose of beta sitosterol.

Men over 40 should consider taking Beta sitosterol as a nutritional prostate supplement for supporting a healthy prostate.

Men who suffer from prostate complaints should consider taking prostate supplements containing Beta sitosterol to alleviate many of the discomforts associated with an aging prostate.

Beta sitosterol for prostate health has been well researched for more than 50 years. Several clinical studies and scientific reports support the efficacy of beta sitosterol in prostate health support. This nutrient supports healthy urinary functions and flow as well as healthy functions of the prostrate.

Before we get into the alternative treatment for prostate cancer, it is important to know just what the prostate is, what it does and where it is.The prostate is a sex gland and is only in men. Its function is to create seminal fluid. The prostate is just under the bladder and surrounds the urethra. This position is unfortunate because if there’s something wrong with the prostate, this usually causes a problem with urination.

The alternative treatment for prostate cancer that I’m talking has its origins back in 1924 when Nobel Prize winner Dr. Otto Warburg first wrote in a paper that all cancers were anaerobic. He later tested this by giving cancer to a group of animals over a period of 48hrs by injecting them with acidic fluids, therefore, expelling any oxygen from their bodies. Since then, his research has largely been ignored by modern cancer researchers.

Some people say that prostrate cancer is the most common cancer affecting men. Other people say the prostate is second only to skin cancer. Whatever the case, prostate cancer is definitely one of the most common cancers. The good news is that prostate cancer is usually caught fairly early in its progression.

It’s caught by the PSA test (prostate specific antigen) or by the digital rectal exam. Because it is normally caught too soon, victims have time to plan out their treatments including considering an alternative treatment for prostate cancer. Traditional Western medicine treatments generally include: * radiation * chemotherapy * hormone therapy * surgery. All of these treatments are meant to kill the cancer cells, but, regrettably, healthy cells are also killed along with the immune system being compromised, so the prostate cancer normally comes back or spreads to other parts of the body. This death of healthy cells is why an alterative treatment for prostate cancer should be used.

The alternative treatment for prostate cancer that’s based on Dr. Warburg’s findings involves that ingesting of calcium and alkaline foods to raise the ph of the bodily fluids so that oxygen is present in all of the cells.

Calcium has a ph of eight so it’s alkaline, but more importantly, it also acts as a buffer in the body. Being a buffer means that just a little bit of calcium can neutralize a lot of acid in the body.

There are many types of calcium supplements that can be purchased. All of these types are good because they all have an alkaline ph, but coral calcium is the best because it is already 100% ionized, so it is ready to be absorbed by the body.

If you have prostate cancer, you should take six coral calcium capsules per day. To facilitate the absorption of the calcium, you should also take 5,000 I.U.’s per day of vitamin D.

Using calcium to treat cancer is probably the last thing you expected me to say. You probably expected me to advocate B17. In fact, scientific researchers are discovering more about the importance of calcium all the time. One result of these discoveries was and article in the October 13th, 1998 issue of the New York Times.

It was entitled “Calcium Takes It’s Place As a Superstar Of Nutrients”. This article talked about a study that was reviewed by the Journal of the American Medical Association. The journal reported that “increasing the calcium induced normal development of the epithelial cells and might also prevent cancer in such organs as the breast, prostate and pancreas”.

Another key point of this alternative treatment for prostate cancer is that treating the cancer is only part of the battle. To keep the cancer from coming back, you need to find out why it occurred in the first place and change whatever you were doing when you acquired cancer.

Finding the cause of any ailment is not really part of Western medicine, but it is a very important part of alternative medicine. As part of an alternative treatment for prostate cancer, you should closely examine your diet to see if you can eliminate foods that are very acidic.

You’d be surprised at which foods are extremely acidic. One of the bad ones is soda pop. If it’s a diet soda, that can be even worse because if it’s a citrus drink, more citrus will be added as a partial substitute for sugar. The result is an extremely acidic drink.

Water is supposed to have a neutral ph of seven, so a lot of people assume that tap water is neutral. This is not so. With all the additives it has to “purify” it, especially chlorine, it ends up being acidic. If you want to drink water, you’re better off with bottled water.

Unfortunately, most foods are also acidic. Foods are this way so that they are easier to digest. If you have prostate cancer, you try to eat foods that are less acidic than others or even some of the foods that are already alkaline such as some green vegetables. To find these foods get and follow a food chart. There are several online.
