You may, or may not have heard that fish oils could help improve the state of your health if you happen to have arthritis. Many studies have shown this to be true, even if only a mild improvement has occurred. And lets face it, any improvement is a good improvement, right?

Data collected from a few randomised studies has clearly shown the beneficial effect, fish oil has had on rheumatoid arthritis. The reason for this is, that they contain omega 3 fatty acids, which are renowned, amongst other things, for their inflammatory properties. Several studies have also shown significant reductions in the number of patients with tender joints.

There are a couple of ways to include it in your lifestyle. You could decide to eat more fish, such as salmon, cod, mackerel, halibut, tuna, herring or hoki.

If like me however, you don’t particularly enjoy fish, you could decide to take a supplement. These come in a variety of forms and the most common are gel capsules. Each capsule should contain least 30% EPA/DHA, which are the most important components of fish oil. These are the parts that provide you with all the benefits that you will experience by taking a supplement. It is recommended that for rheumatoid arthritis about 2.6 grams of fish oil containing 1.6 grams of EPA should be taken twice a day.
